The Loop, Sunday

THEY WERE IN Buzz’s car on the way to The Loop, and Buzz was concerned about Adam. “Are you sure you’re all right, baby?”

“Yeah, I’m okay.”

“You don’t sound okay.”

“All right, I’m not okay… but I’m getting there. Satisfied?”

“I’m worried about you, baby—it’s my job to look after you.”

“And I’ll work my way through this, with your help.”

“Good.”

At the popular eatery, Adam and Buzz walked out onto the deck carrying their trays, and found Buzz’s friends already seated at one of the tables.

Butch spotted them, and said in a loud voice, “Here come the lovebirds. It’s about time.”

As they settled down at an adjacent table, Ted said, “I hope we didn’t get you guys out of bed and interrupt anything.”

“You’re just jealous, because you don’t have a boyfriend,” Buzz said.

“We were just about to jump in the pool when Buzz’s phone rang,” Adam said.

“What’s that on your left hand, Buzz?” Carol said.

“Gee, Carol, I think it’s a ring,” Ted said. “Lots of people wear them.”

“Maybe, but I’ve never seen Buzz wearing one,” she said. “Let me see your hand, Buzz.”

Buzz extended his hand in her direction, then she looked in Adam’s direction, and he held up his hand.

“Ohhhh, you bought matching rings like I suggested,” she said. “That’s so sweet.”

“We picked them up at Underwood’s the other day,” Adam said.

Buzz grinned. “But we didn’t wear them home.”

“Why not?” Carol said.

“Because we went home and got naked, then we put them on each other’s fingers.”

“Oh, that’s so romantic.”

“Sounds kind of silly to me,” Ted said. “But whatever floats your boat.”

“You’ll be in love one of these days, Ted, then you’ll understand,” she said.

“Not anytime soon, I hope.”
